Sadie Sink was quietly revealed as Jean Grey through a scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Samara Weaving has separately been reported as the pick for Emma Frost. Put those three together and you've got the beginnings of a lineup that leans into one of the more classic X-Men dynamics, the Scott and Jean relationship with Emma Frost circling both of them.

Why does this casting feel bigger than a typical Marvel announcement?

Since my original post, Marvel actually confirmed everything at D23 on August 14. Kevin Feige revealed the full lineup on stage, and it goes well beyond Kit Connor and the two names we already knew about. Here's the complete, now-official cast:

• Sadie Sink as Jean Grey (already confirmed via her Spider-Man: Brand New Day cameo)
• Kit Connor as Cyclops
• Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
• Christopher Abbott as Professor X
• Inde Navarrette as Rogue
• Maya Boyd as Storm
• Adam Driver as Mister Sinister

That last one is the genuine surprise. I'll admit I expected Driver to eventually land in the MCU somewhere, given how openly he's talked about wanting in, but Mister Sinister as his entry point is a more interesting choice than I would have guessed. Driver himself said on stage, "Kevin and I have been talking for years about me joining MCU," adding they'd "found something perfect with characters I feel very deeply about." Mister Sinister, in the comics, is a genetic manipulator obsessed with mutant evolution, which gives Driver a genuinely different kind of villain to play than anything he's done in a franchise before.

A couple of the newer names are worth knowing a bit about too. Maya Boyd, playing Storm, is making her feature film debut here, coming from Broadway, where she led & Juliet. Inde Navarrette, playing Rogue rather than the Mystique role she'd been circling earlier, broke through this year in the horror film Obsession. Neither had a major screen credit before this, which tells you Marvel was genuinely willing to cast based on screen tests rather than existing name recognition, at least for a couple of these roles.

Jake Schreier is confirmed directing, with the film locked for a May 5, 2028 release. My original excitement about the writing team, Lee Sung Jin of Beef and Joanna Calo of The Bear, still stands, and honestly, having the full cast in hand now makes me more confident this is being built as a genuine ensemble rather than leaning on one or two star names to carry it.
