I'm also excited about the new director. Destin Daniel Cretton made Shang-Chi genuinely one of the better-paced MCU films of its era, and stepping away from Jon Watts after three films could shake up a formula that was starting to feel a little safe.

And I won't pretend the cast additions aren't a big draw — Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk showing up in a Spider-Man film is exactly the kind of unexpected pairing that got me excited for this genre in the first place.

Here's my honest hesitation: "isolated hero forgotten by everyone he loves" is a strong premise, but it's also one Marvel has to actually commit to rather than resolve too quickly and comfortably. If Peter's isolation gets undone in the first act just to get the team back together for a big finale, that would waste what makes this setup interesting in the first place.

I'm also a little unsure about tone. The trailer leans into a genuinely intense, transformation-driven angle for Peter this time, and I hope that doesn't crowd out the specific blend of humor and heart that made the Homecoming-era films work so well.

What I'd want from this movie

If I'm being specific: I want at least one full act where Peter is genuinely alone with this problem before the ensemble cast shows up to help. That's the version of this story that actually earns its "brand new day" title, rather than one that just resets things back to a familiar formula by the credits.
