Money Heist (Antena 3, then Netflix, 2017-2021, 5 parts). A mastermind called the Professor and robbers code-named after cities take hostages in the Royal Mint of Spain. Melodramatic, tense and addictive; it became one of Netflix's most-watched non-English shows. A spin-off, Berlin, followed.
Gentleman thief
Lupin (Netflix, 2021 onward). Omar Sy plays Assane Diop, who models himself on the fictional thief Arsène Lupin to take revenge on the wealthy family that framed his father. Clever, charming and very French.
A job every episode
Leverage (TNT, 2008-2012, 5 seasons). A former insurance investigator leads a hacker, a thief, a grifter and a hitter in robbing people who've ruined others. Light and satisfying.
Hustle (BBC One, 2004-2012, 8 series). A team of London grifters cons greedy marks, usually with a reveal of how it was really done in the final minutes.
Con men undercover
White Collar (USA Network, 2009-2014, 6 seasons). Matt Bomer's art forger Neal Caffrey works off his sentence helping an FBI agent catch white-collar criminals. Breezy and fun.
Sneaky Pete (Prime Video, 2015-2019, 3 seasons). Giovanni Ribisi's con man, fresh out of prison, hides from a gangster by pretending to be his cellmate Pete and moving in with Pete's family. Co-created by Bryan Cranston.
Our verdict
For one huge binge, Money Heist. For something lighter and episodic, Leverage or Hustle.
