Bleach TYBW: What to Watch Before Final Arc
In short: Not all 366 episodes, but you do need the story arcs. Skip the four big filler arcs (episodes 64-109, 168-189, 230-265 and 317-342) and you're left with roughly 230 episodes, about 200 if you also drop the scattered standalone fillers. Thousand-Year Blood War itself is now complete at 50 episodes.

Thousand-Year Blood War (TYBW) is the final arc of Tite Kubo's manga, animated from 2022 to 2026 as a direct continuation of the original 2004 to 2012 anime. It's not a fresh start: it picks up the story, characters and rivalries the original built over 366 episodes. You don't need all of those episodes, but you do need the main story.
What to watch
- Substitute Shinigami (1-20). Ichigo Kurosaki gains Soul Reaper powers and starts protecting his town from Hollows.
- Soul Society (21-63). Ichigo and friends invade the afterlife to rescue Rukia. Introduces the captains, Bankai and Aizen. Many fans' favourite arc.
- The Arrancar saga (110-342, skipping filler). The longest stretch of story: Aizen's army, the rescue mission to Hueco Mundo, and the battle for Karakura Town. TYBW leans on it heavily, so don't skip it.
- Fullbring (343-366). Ichigo, powerless, gets drawn into a group of humans with strange abilities. It sets up his state at the start of TYBW.
What to skip
- Bount arc (64-109). Anime-original vampire-like villains.
- New Captain Amagai arc (168-189). A new captain joins Squad 3.
- Zanpakuto: The Alternate Tale (230-265). The Soul Reapers' swords take human form and rebel. Fun, but optional.
- Gotei 13 Invasion Army (317-342). Mod-soul doubles of the captains.
- Scattered standalone fillers inside the canon arcs. Search for a "Bleach filler list" for the exact numbers, since several are mixed in.
One exception worth keeping: the Turn Back the Pendulum flashback (episodes 206-212) is canon and explains Aizen's history, even though it interrupts the main fight.
A quicker route
If roughly 200 episodes is too much, read the manga instead. Tite Kubo's 74 volumes cover everything up to TYBW without filler, and many fans read the middle stretch and then return to the anime for TYBW, which is far better animated than the original series.

TYBW runs 50 episodes across four parts: Part 1 (2022), The Separation (2023), The Conflict (2024) and The Calamity (July to September 2026). It adapts the manga's final arc in full and adds scenes Kubo supervised, so it's the complete ending of Bleach.

Worth the time if you enjoy long shonen action. Watch episodes 1 to 63 first: if Soul Society hooks you, the rest of the journey to TYBW is worth it. If it doesn't, nothing later will change your mind.
