Henry Cavill's 2026 and 2027: Highlander to a Kevin Hart Spy Comedy

In the Grey (May 15, 2026). His third film with Guy Ritchie, after The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González and Rosamund Pike as a team of operatives who use both political leverage and explosives. It had a long road to release after Lionsgate pulled it from a January 2025 date. In cinemas it opened to just $3 million in the US and made $27.8 million worldwide on a $70 million budget. Critics were split at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences rated it 83%, and it spent more than 100 days in Amazon's US top 25 rentals.
Enola Holmes 3 (July 1, 2026, Netflix). Cavill returns as Sherlock alongside Millie Bobby Brown. This time the story moves to Malta, as Enola takes on a case while preparing to marry Tewkesbury. Philip Barantini directed from a script by Jack Thorne, who has written all three films.

Highlander. Chad Stahelski, who directed the John Wick films, is remaking the 1986 cult classic with Cavill as Connor MacLeod, the Scottish warrior who finds out he is immortal. Dave Bautista and Russell Crowe co-star. Filming was due to start in 2025 but was pushed back after Cavill was injured in rehearsals. It began in Scotland in January 2026. Stahelski has said the film should be out in 2027 or 2028.
Spy Duo (Netflix). A comedy from director McG about two rival spies, Cavill and Kevin Hart, whose pregnant wives become friends in a Lamaze class. Filming began on August 31, 2026 in New Jersey and is due to finish in November. It's written by Jonathan Tropper and Aaron and Adam Nee, from a short story by Sean Lewis, and produced by Hart, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy. No release date yet. It's a rare comedy for Cavill.

Voltron (Prime Video, 2027). Rawson Marshall Thurber's live-action version of the 1980s robot cartoon, shot in Australia from late 2024 to mid-2025. Cavill plays King Alfor, with Sterling K. Brown as Zarkon and Rita Ora as Haggar. Amazon has confirmed it will skip cinemas and go straight to Prime Video.

Warhammer 40,000 (Amazon). The project Cavill has championed since 2022. Amazon secured the rights in December 2024, with Cavill set to star and produce. In July 2026 Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) came aboard to write, direct and run the series, and Games Workshop says he has finished the story outlines and moved on to scripts. A separate animated Warhammer 40,000 series, also produced by Cavill, is in development. There's no release date for either.
What it adds up to
After leaving both Superman and The Witcher, Cavill hasn't replaced them with another single franchise. His next two years mix a big action reboot, a Netflix comedy, a streaming family blockbuster and a long-term passion project. Of those, Highlander is the one to watch: Stahelski's action style is a natural fit for a story built around sword fights between immortals.
