Why God Valley is different
Most One Piece films tell original side stories that sit outside the main plot. God Valley instead adapts one of the manga's biggest pieces of backstory: the battle 38 years ago in which the Rocks Pirates clashed with the Roger Pirates, the Marines and the World Nobles. Fans have seen it only in flashbacks, so a full film version is a big deal. The timing matches the manga's 30th anniversary, on July 22, 2027.
What else is coming
- The TV anime began the Elbaph arc in Japan on April 5, 2026, now produced at a maximum of 26 episodes a year to follow the manga's pacing more closely.
- THE ONE PIECE, Wit Studio's remake of the story from chapter 1, arrives on Netflix in February 2027 with seven episodes released at once, reaching Luffy's arrival at the Baratie.
Should you catch up first?
God Valley is backstory, so you'll appreciate it far more if you know Roger, Garp and the Rocks Pirates from the manga or anime. If you're new, the remake next February is the easiest way in.
