In short: Yes, if you want a long, warm, found-family adventure and don't mind formula. The original anime runs 328 episodes (2009 to 2019) and adapts Hiro Mashima's complete manga; skipping the filler cuts a good chunk. The sequel, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest (2024, 25 episodes), continues the story, and a new manga, Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia, began in July 2026.

Worth it if you want a comfort show to live with for months. Fairy Tail is all about friendship and loyalty, and its guild of loud, loyal misfits is easy to love. It's also formulaic: fights are often won by the power of friendship, and the fan service can be heavy. If those are dealbreakers, look elsewhere.
The premise
Lucy Heartfilia, a celestial wizard who summons spirits with keys, dreams of joining the famous Fairy Tail guild. She meets Natsu Dragneel, a fire-eating Dragon Slayer searching for the dragon who raised him, and his flying cat Happy, and joins their team with ice wizard Gray and the formidable Erza. Together they take jobs, fight dark guilds and get pulled into ever-bigger wars.
How the anime is structured
- Series 1 (2009 to 2013, 175 episodes). Includes the much-loved Tenrou Island and Grand Magic Games arcs.
- Series 2 (2014 to 2016, 102 episodes). Finishes the Grand Magic Games and covers the Tartaros arc.
- Final series (2018 to 2019, 51 episodes). The Alvarez Empire war and the series finale.
- Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest (July 2024 to January 2025, 25 episodes). A sequel following the team on a quest no one has finished in a century.
The filler
The anime kept catching up with the manga, which produced three big original arcs: Daphne (episodes 69 to 75), Key of the Starry Sky (125 to 150) and Eclipse Celestial Spirits (203 to 226), plus scattered one-off episodes. Skipping them saves about 60 episodes without missing anything that matters. The Key of the Starry Sky arc has its fans, so it's a reasonable watch if you want more.
What's new in 2026
For Fairy Tail's 20th anniversary, Mashima began a new short manga series, Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia, in Weekly Shonen Magazine on July 29, 2026, his first new Fairy Tail serialisation since the original ended in 2017. No second season of 100 Years Quest had been announced as of October 2026.
